Chairing a Meeting

This online training is aimed at health and social care professionals who want to improve their skills around chairing meetings.

This course has been accredited by the CPD Standards Office, it equates to 3.5 hours of CPD. It also can be used as evidence in a CPD audit by a professional body institute or regulator.

Course Description 

This workshop explores and assesses the essential skills required for chairing a meeting, and at the end of the session you will have:

  • examined the essential skills of chairing. This will include an enhanced understanding of the different types of meetings in the trust, preparing for these meetings, and ensuring agendas are appropriately expressed, structured and prioritized

  • explored the responsibilities of a meeting chair

  • an enhanced understanding of what the regulators or others expect to see during observations of meetings and from assessment of their minutes

  • explored good practice in the chairing of meetings

  • an enhanced understanding of how to overcome the barriers to chairing meetings successfully

 

There is no pre-course work required, and any materials used during the workshop, plus supplementary resources, will be available electronically via the online portal.

  

The lectures for this course are just over an hour long, giving the attendee a similar amount of time for their reflection process. The testing on this course will take the attendee just 50 minutes to be completed.

Meet your trainer

Howard Scott

Howard has worked in the NHS for over thirty-four years. A former nurse, he is a leader with extensive experience of working at ward, directorate, divisional, trust, regional and national levels in clinical and managerial posts.

He has wide-ranging experience in governance, risk and change management, including quality and safety systems and processes.
